SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.—The Lake Superior State women's basketball battled against No.1-ranked Ashland but eventually fell, 95-49, in its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener inside Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
With the loss, the Lakers slip to 0-5 overall, 0-1 in the GLIAC. The Eagles improve to 7-0, 1-0 on the season.
LSSU shot 46.6 percent (18-of-39) from the field in the contest and 27.3 percent from behind the arc. AU finished at 62.3 percent (38-of-61) and 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from three.
Lake State was outrebounded, 27-18, in the loss and turned the ball over 19 times compared to eight by Ashland.
The Lakers were lead offensively by senior forward Tamara Novic who finished (9-of-10) with a season-high 22 points and led the team with four rebounds.
Junior guard Courtney Jacobson finished with seven points and was 2-of-3 from long distance.
Laina Snyder led the Eagles with 23 points on an 11-of-14 shooting night. Andi Daugherty posted 16 points and led the team with 6 rebounds
The Lakers return to GLIAC action on Saturday (Dec.2) as they host Tiffin at 1 p.m.
