Laker Cross Country Races at Cardinal Classic

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's and women's cross country programs competed at the Cardinal Classic, hosted by Saginaw Valley State, on Saturday.

 

Men

Ethan Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) led the way for the Lakers in the men's 8k with a personal best time of 27:54.00 and a third place finish individually, and his brother Aaron Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) was not far behind, crossing the finish line two seconds shy of his own personal best 8k time to place 9th with a time of 28:12.70. Reese Camp (Highland, Mich.) would be the next to finish among his teammates with a time of 29:52.60. Senior Roy Bowman (Jerome, Mich.) was the next to finish with a time of 30:03.9, and he was followed by true freshman Sam Markle (Berrien Springs, Mich.) who finished the second 8k of his collegiate career with a personal record time of 30:19.40. Skylar Williams (Battle Creek, Mich.) and Riley Sponseller (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) rounded out the lineup for the men's team with respective times of 30:28.10 and 31:46.60.

 

Women

Sydney Kapushinski (Imlay City, Mich.) earned a fourth place finish individually to lead the way for her teammates, finishing with a new personal best 6k time of 26:21.40. Junior Kara Mosher (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) was the next to finish for the Lakers, placing sixth overall with a personal record time of 27:16.90. Julie Sheehy (Walkerville, Mich.) and Keira Lamming (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) would then place within two seconds of one another with respective times of 27:22.90 and 27:24.00. Freshmen Nora Smoes (Reed City, Mich.) and Olivia Peter (Unionville, Mich.) would then close out the top ten overall placements with times of 27:44.20 and 28:07.10, respectively. Gwen Phillips (Cadillac, Mich.), Sarah McDaniel (Manistique, Mich.), and Olivia Stevens (Grand Haven, Mich.) rounded out the lineup for the Lakers with respective times of 29:21.20, 29:24.30, and 30:48.00, respectively.

The Lakers will now look ahead to the 2023 GLIAC Championship meet on Saturday, Oct. 21, hosted by Michigan Tech.
