Men's Tennis Drops GLIAC Contest Against Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's tennis team lost by a score of 5-2 at Davenport University on Saturday, March 20 at the Gainey Athletic Complex in Grand Rapids, Mich. in the team's second Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match of the season. Through the first four matches of the season, the Lakers hold a 0-4 overall record and an 0-2 record in conference play. 

The Lakers dropped the doubles point to the Panthers as the home team swept all three sets over Lake Superior State. The team's No. 1 pairing of Juho Kantola and Xavier Vicent Navarro fell 6-2 while the No. 3 duo of Diego Penz and Seth Pinnoo fell by the same mark. The Lakers second pair of Harris Irfan Ul Haq and Ali Sahibzada dropped their set by a score of 6-3. 

In singles play, two Lakers recorded wins. Vicent Navarro, the Lakers No. 2 singles player, won in two sets (6-2, 6-4) while the team's No. 6 singles player, Pinnoo, recorded a three-set victory for the Lakers. The remaining four Lakers (No. 1 Kantola, No. 3 Krishan Taneja, No.4 Sahibzada, and No. 5 Irfan Ul Haq) each lost in three sets as the competition with the Panthers was tightly contested. 

Looking Ahead

The Lakers will continue conference play next weekend with a match against the Michigan Tech Huskies on Saturday, March 27 at 2:00 p.m.
