Men's Tennis Falls in Tight Match to Lawrence Tech to Open 2021 Season

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's tennis team dropped a match by a final score of 4-3 on Saturday, Feb. 20 against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils in Southfield, Mich. 

Singles Competition: In the singles competition, the Lakers were led by Juho Kantola in the top spot, who won his match in the tiebreaker. No. 2 Xavier Vicent Navarro and No. 4 Ali Sahibzada both won their matches in two sets for the Lakers. No. 3 Krishan Taneja and No. 6 Diego Penz both fell in the tiebreak set. 

S1: Juho Kantola def. Alex Tamarro 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(8)

S2: Xavier Vicent Navarro def. Patrick Putschbach 6-1, 6-2

S3: Pedro Orellana def. Krishan Taneja 5-7, 6-3, 1-0(10)

S4: Sahibzada Ali def. Luca Roth 6-3, 6-1

S5: Alex Fernandez-Rajal def. Seth Pinnoo 6-1, 6-3

S6: Jannis Schneider def. Diego Penz 7-5, 3-6, 1-0(13)

Doubles competition: The Lakers lost the doubles point by a score of 2-1 as LSSU's third pair won its match.

D1: Alex Tamarro / Jannis Schneider def. Juho Kantola / Xavier Vicent Navarro 7-6(5)

D2: Lukas Obel / Patrick Putschbach def. Diego Penz / Sahibzada Ali 7-6(4)

Looking Ahead

The Lakers have a few weeks off before returning to competition on Saturday, March 6 with a home non-conference match against Tiffin University in the Student Activity Center in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
