Men's Tennis Participates in ITA Midwest Regionals

ALLENDALE, Mich.- The Lake Superior State men's tennis team participated in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Midwest Regionals hosted by Grand Valley State University this weekend. The Lakers were one of 22 schools who competed in the regional tournament on Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29. 

In the Men's A Singles Main Draw on Saturday, senior Joe Gilman dropped his match to the tournament's No. 1 overall seed by scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Freshman Juho Kantola won his first match in two sets (6-3, 7-6) before falling in a tiebreaker set in the second round (2-6, 6-1, 10-4). Sophomore Krishan Taneja also recorded a win in his first match (6-3, 6-4) but then fell in the second round in two sets. 

In the Men's A Doubles Main Draw, the Lakers No. 1 tandem of Gilman and Kantola lost 8-4. 

Junior Diego Penz lost in the opening round of play in the Men's B Singles Main Draw (6-2, 6-3). Freshman Viktor Vlasov, who was the No. 5 seed, dropped his match in two sets (7-5, 6-0). Senior Stefan Trisic, senior Peter Summers, and junior Seth Pinnoo all fell in their first match in the Men's B Singles.

In the Men's B Doubles Main Draw, Pinnoo and Vlasov, Taneja and Penz, and Summers and Trisic were the three pairs for the Lakers in the event. The three Lake State tandems were defeated in the first round of doubles play.
