Lakers beat MTU 9-0 to record first GLIAC men's tennis win

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State saved its best for last, beating Michigan Tech 9-0, Saturday at the Arbuckle Student Activity Center to record its first conference victory of the season during its home finale.

The Lakers swept through doubles fairly easily with the closest match being an 8-6 No. 3 doubles win by Miles Munro and Hunter Koster.

The Lakers also swept singles in straight sets, with Jake Prime, Luis Valderrama, Joseph Gilman, Ieuan Lister, Mateus Souza Fonai and Peter Summers all posting wins.

Valderrama at No. 2 singles and Gilman at No. 3 both improved to 3-4 in the GLIAC. Overall, they are 10-7 and 12-5, respectively. Prime at No. 1 singles and Fonai at No. 5 picked up their first GLIAC wins of the year.

The Lakers play April 14 at Northwood.
