Prime and Valderrama notch No. 1 doubles win against GVSU

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State's No. 1 doubles team of Jake Prime and Luis Valderrama defeated Grand Valley State's Zach Phillips and Alex van de Steenoven to record LSSU's lone victory during Sunday's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis dual match.

GVSU (4-1 GLIAC, 14-6 overall), which is ranked 36th nationally and fourth in the ITA Midwest Region, won the team event, 8-1. Prime and Vanlderrama notched an 8-3 victory.

Later in the day, Prime lost a three-set marathon to Sebastian Lescoulie, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. At No. 3 singles, GVSU's Jack Geissler claimed a three-set win, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

LSSU fell to 0-6 GLIAC and 6-10 overall. The Lakers play their final home match at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, against Michigan Tech.
