Cavs rally in four matches to secure win

SAULT STE. MARIE - Walsh rallied during the latter part of four close matches to secure a 6-3 men's tennis victory over Lake Superior State Sunday at the Arbuckle Student Activity Center.

The Cavaliers (10-6 overall, 2-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) pulled out three-set victories at Nos. 4 and 6 singles, and was on the winning side of close matches at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles.

LSSU's Luis Valderrama improved to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC after winning his No. 2 singles match 6-4, 6-4. Joseph Gilman (1-1, 10-2) added a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles. Also for the Lakers (6-6 overall, 0-2 GLIAC), Gilman and Ieuan Lister garnered an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles to improve to 7-5 for the season.

Walsh's Vasily Vidmanov defeated LSSU's Jake Prime 6-1, 7-6 at No. 1 singles.

The Lakers resume GLIAC action March 25 at Findlay.
