Tiffin wins GLIAC men's tennis opener 6-3

SAULT STE. MARIE - Tiffin defeated Lake Superior State 6-3 Saturday at the Arbuckle Student Activity Center to open the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference portion of its men's tennis schedule. The Dragons extended their overall win streak to four matches.

Tiffin (10-4 overall) opened the match with wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles. Stephen Prica and Hunter Koster posted an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles for the Lakers (6-5 overall).

Luis Valderrama of LSSU claimed a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, and teammate Peter Summers closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6. Joseph Gilman at No. 3 of LSSU lost a back-and-forth battle with Agus Mangone, 7-5, 6-7, 6-10, and Tiffin's Luis Ludena edged Jake Prime 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1.

The remaining matches were decided in straight sets.

Lake Superior State plays host to Walsh at 10 a.m. Sunday in the SAC.
