JACKSON, Wis. - Lake Superior State men's tennis secured a pair of victories over Concordia University Wisconsin and Carroll University on Saturday to round out a week-long road trip and improve to a 6-4 overall record on the season.
LSSU 8 - CUW 1
The Lakers opened play Saturday at the Pleasant Valley Tennis Center with an 8-1 victory over CUW. A sweep in the doubles portion gave LSSU a 3-0 lead over the Falcons heading into the singles play.
Junior Jake Prime opened singles with a 7-6 victory in the first set of No. 1 singles, before falling 6-1 to James Forster in the second set. Prime rallied in the third set with a 10-6 victory to open singles with another victory for the Lakers.
Sophomore Luis Valderrama continued the winning ways for LSSU with a straight-sets 6-0, 6-0 victory over Ceejay Schaffner in No. 2 singles, followed by a 6-2, 6-2 victory by freshman Joseph Gilman in No. 3 singles. The Lakers rounded out with singles victories in both the No. 4 and No. 5 spots to cap the match victory. Ieuan Lister rebounded from a 6-1 loss to Brad Guendel in the first set of No. 4 singles to win their matchup 7-5, 10-8. Freshman Peter Summers scored a 6-0, 6-1 in No. 5 singles.

LSSU 7 - Carroll University 2
The Lakers followed up their victory over CUW on Saturday with a 7-2 victory over Carroll University in the evening. Prime and Valderrama opened doubles play with an 8-3 victory over Peter Jaeger and Matt Michael in the top pairing to match Gilman and Lister with identical 6-4 overall records this season.
Following an 8-5 loss by Gilman and Lister in No. 2 doubles, Miles Munro and Stephen Prica turned in their second doubles victory of the day to improve their record to 3-3 as partners this season and give the Lakers a 2-1 lead in the match heading into the singles contest.
Prime opened No. 1 singles with a 6-3 victory in the first set but was forced to retire from the match in the second set, giving Jaeger the singles win. Prime's retirement would be the only blemish for the Lakers as they went on to close out with victories in the No. 2-6 singles spots.
Valderrama came back from a 7-5 loss in his first set to defeat Chayce Roecker with 6-4, 10-6 victories in the second and third sets of No. 2 singles.
Gilman improved his individual record to 9-1 out of the No. 3 spot for the Lakers with a 6-2, 6-4 sweep of Joe Harrison. In No. 4 singles, Lister scored 6-2, 6-2 victories over Ian Foster to improve to 6-4 in singles play.
Summers and Munro closed out fifth and sixth singles, respectively, with straight set victories to conclude the match. Summers won 6-0, 6-0 over Josh Ramos, while Munro defeated Gjerseth 6-4, 6-4.
