Valderrama captures doubles and singles wins but Lakers fall 7-2 to Northwood

SAULT STE. MARIE - Lake Superior State men's tennis fell 7-2 against Northwood University on Saturday (April 23) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team match.

The Lakers (5-11, 1-7 GLIAC) picked up just one victory in the doubles portion and trailed heading into singles 2-1. Jake Prime and Luis Valderrama improved their impressive doubles record to 13-7 on the season with an 8-5 victory over Daniel Haas and David Reinauer in the No. 2 doubles slot.

Valderrama also picked up the Lakers' only win in the singles portion with a three-set victory over Haas in the No. 4 position. The freshman from Madrid, Spain earned a 6-4 win in the first set, lost the second set 4-6, before returning with a 12-10 third-set victory.

The Timberwolves (8-8, 4-4 GLIAC) closed out the victory with two-set singles wins in four of their five victories.

LSSU closes the regular season with a 10 a.m. match against Wayne State inside the LSSU Student Activity Center on Sunday (April 24). Admission to the match is free.
