Lakers claim doubles portion, unable to hold court in singles play against Michigan Tech

HOUGHTON, Mich. - After taking the two-of-three victories in doubles competition to open the match, Lake Superior State men's tennis dropped five-of-six individual matches to fall to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals Michigan Tech 6-3.

The Lakers (5-10, 1-6 GLIAC) got doubles wins of 8-4 from Jake Prime and Luis Valderrama in the No. 2 slot, and an 8-5 victory from TJ Myers and Borja Font in the No. 3 pairing. Tech's top pair of Mario Neto and Robin Duhnsen registered the Huskies' lone win in singles play, an 8-4 topping of Ieuan Lister and Hunter Koster.

Four-of-the-six singles events needed three sets to determine a winner with Valderrama coming away with the only victory for the Lakers in No. 4 singles. The freshman from Madrid, Spain scored a 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 victory over Nick Kremkow.

Prime (No. 1 singles), Miles Munro (No. 5) and Myers (No. 6) each won their first sets before falling in the final two sets of their singles matchups.

LSSU closes the regular season by hosting Northwood University and Wayne State next weekend (April 23-24). Both matches are scheduled for 10 a.m. inside the Student Activity Center and admission is free.
