Lakers suffer road loss against Lawrence Tech

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Lake Superior State men's tennis traveled to face National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics member Lawrence Tech on Friday and fell 7-2 in team play at the Franklin Racquet Club.

The Lakers (4-6) found themselves behind 2-1 following the opening doubles portion. Sophomore Jake Prime and freshman Luis Valderrama picked up an 8-3 decision over Mason Wenzel and Jan Horstkoetter to deliver the lone doubles victory for the Lakers in the No. 2 slot. Prime and Valderrama have now won seven straight doubles matches and hold an 8-2 record during their last 10 matches.

Prime also scored the only single victory for the Lakers in a three-set match against Sergio Lopez in No. 1 singles. The pair traded 6-4 sets before Prime earned a 10-5 victory in the third and final set. Prime now holds a 9-6 record this season.

The Lakers return home next weekend for matches against Hillsdale on April 2, and against Findlay on April 3. Both matches will be held inside the Student Activity Center inside the LSSU Norris Center at 10 a.m. and admission is free to all.
