Lakers stumble against Walsh 6-3

CANTON, Ohio - Wrapping up the first weekend of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference men's tennis action on the road in Ohio this weekend, Lake Superior State suffered their second consecutive loss. The Lakers (4-5, 0-2 GLIAC) fell by a team score of 6-3 against the hosting Walsh Cavaliers (6-5, 2-0 GLIAC).

The Lakers opened the match with a 2-1 advantage following a pair of victories in the doubles portion. The duo of Jake Prime and Luis Valderrama remained hot in the No. 2 doubles slot where they are now 7-2 on the season and winners of their last six matches following a tight 9-7 victory over Pablo Cabezon and Carlos Jaque.

TJ Myers and Borja Font combined for the 8-6 victory in No. 3 doubles over Heitor Adegas and Jonah Carter. Myers and Font improved to 2-2 as partners on the season, playing in the third doubles pairing.

The Cavaliers came storming back in singles play and won four-straight singles matches to secure the victory. Prime and Whittaker went three sets before Whittaker claimed the No. 1 singles victory for Walsh with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (5). Prime still holds the most singles victories for the Lakers this season with a respectable record of 8-6.

Miles Munro earned the only singles victory for the Lakers with a win over Rodrigo Garcia. The 7-5, 3-6, 10-6 marathon gave Munro his first career GLIAC singles victory and improves the first-year Laker to 3-3 in the No. 5 slot this season.

The Lakers return home April 2-3 for GLIAC contests against Hillsdale and Findlay, respectively. Both matches begin at 10 a.m. and admission is free.
