Lakers fall to Cornerstone 5-4

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Lake Superior State men's tennis dropped it's first match of the day 5-4 against Cornerstone University. The Lakers (0-2, 0-0 GLIAC) picked up a No. 3 doubles victory in the doubles portion but were only able to split the six matchups in the singles competition.

Senior TJ Myers and freshman Conner Allen combined for the Lakers only victory in the doubles competition. Myers and Allen collected a 9-8 (7-5) victory over Austin Hunt and Brad Miedema in No. 3 doubles.

The Lakers and Golden Eagles split the singles portion 3-3. Jake Prime led the Lakers to a No. 1 singles victory in three sets over Sam Ottosen 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Allen and fellow freshman Evan Kornacki picked up the Lakers other victories in the singles portion. Allen defeated Hunt 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 4 slot, while Kornacki defeated Dan Ribbink 6-3, 6-3 in No. 6 singles.

The LSSU men's tennis team begins their regular season February 12 at Michigan Tech.
