Lakers drop opener on the road to Davenport 6-3

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Lake Superior State men's tennis dropped their first match to Davenport on the road Friday by a score of 6-3. The Lakers (0-1, 0-0 GLIAC) took #1 and #3 doubles victories to open the match, however a 5-1 singles mark propelled the Panthers (1-0) to victory.

The Lakers opened the afternoon with a victory in the top doubles pairings. Jake Prime and Luis Valderrama combined for an 8-6 win over Matthew McClurg and Michael Digby. Following an 8-6 loss in #2 doubles, the Lakers' TJ Myers and Conner Allen won the third doubles event by a forfeit.

Evan Kornacki picked up the only victory for the Lakers in the singles portion with a forfeit by Sam Rogerson. Ieuan Lister went three sets with JP van Antwerpen before falling 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.

The Lakers will stay in Grand Rapids Saturday for a 9 a.m. match with Cornerstone before taking on Aquinas at 1 p.m.
