SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program (14-18-1, 10-12-1 CCHA) are set to host the Ferris State Bulldogs (10-21-2, 6-16-1 CCHA) for a single game on Friday in Taffy Abel Arena to wrap up the regular season with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
- The Lakers are set to face off against the Ferris State Bulldogs for their final game of the regular season. Seven seniors will be honored prior to the contest.
- LSSU leads the all-time series between the two programs 85-64-15.
- The Lakers are coming off of a series split at Minnesota State in which goaltender Ethan Langenegger (Kamloops, B.C.) set a new career-high in wins in a season with his 11th of the year.
- Ferris State currently leads the season series between the two programs 2-1. The Lakers picked up a 5-1 victory in December in Big Rapids, but the Bulldogs were the victors in both contests of the home-and-home weekend in January.
- The Lakers are currently locked in to finish the season as either the No. 6 or No. 7 seed in the CCHA standings, and they sit one point above Northern Michigan, but the Lakers hold the tiebreaker over the Wildcats by way of a 2-1 advantage in head-to-head regulation wins due to Laker Hobey Baker nominee Jared Westcott's (Imperial, Mo.) goal in game two in Marquette to tie the game with approximately 30 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.
- The Bulldogs are locked into the 8th seed for the 2024 Mason Cup Playoffs after going winless in February with a record of 0-5-1 on the month, but they were able to steal two points from Northern Michigan in a shootout this past weekend. Ferris State will travel to either Bemidji State or Minnesota State for the CCHA quarterfinals.
- Westcott is currently leading the team in goal scoring with 17 and points with 33.
-
Evan Bushy (Thief River Falls, Minn.) leads all Laker defensemen in scoring with 15 points (1G, 14A).
-
Ten different Lakers have recorded at least ten points so far this season, led by Westcott's 33. Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) (27), Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) (23), Timo Bakos (Augsburg, Germany) (22), Harrison Roy (Lakeville, Mass.) (21), John Herrington (Hudson's Hope, B.C.) (18), Carter Batchelder (Savage, Minn.) (15), Bushy (15), Ross Roloson (Worcester, Mass.) (13), and Nate Schweitzer (Champlin, Minn.) (13) have also reached double-digit scoring.
-
Defense has proven vital for the Lakers who are 10-1-1 so far this season when allowing two goals or fewer.
