BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) Lakers (12-15-1, 9-10-1 CCHA) fell on the road to the Bowling Green Falcons (11-16-0, 9-8-0 CCHA) by a final score of 6-3 on Friday.
The Falcons were able to strike first, capitalizing on a power play opportunity with a goal from Brett Pfoh at the 9:32 mark, but Hobey Baker nominee Jared Westcott (Imperial, Mo.) quickly responded just over 30 seconds later after the combination of Evan Bushy (Thief River Falls, Minn.) and Nate Schweitzer (Champlin, Minn.) disrupted the play, allowing Westcott and Luke Levandowski (Rosemount, Minn.) to race ahead on a breakaway opportunity. However, Ethan Scardina was able to retake the lead for Bowling Green in the final minute of the opening period.
The Lakers wasted no time tying up the score again as Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) punched in the rebound off of a shot from Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) at the 3:16 mark, but the Falcons were once again able to retake the lead before the end of the period, this time with a goal from Quinn Emerson.
The Falcons were able to score a pair of goals to start the third period, and despite Westcott poking in his second of the night after Grant Hindman (Oakland, Mich.) dumped the puck near the Falcon goaltender, Bowling Green was able to ice the game away with an empty-netter.
The Lakers will look to bounce back for the series split on Saturday, Feb. 10 with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
