Laker Hockey Fall to RIT at Ledyard Classic

HANOVER, N.H. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program (9-11-1, 6-6-1 CCHA) fell to the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Tigers (12-6-0, 9-3-0 AHA) by a final score of 4-2 in the third place game at the 34th annual Ledyard Classic on Saturday.

The Tigers were able to get on the board first at the 6:18 mark of the opening period with a goal from Matthew Wilde, but Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) responded with his team-leading fifth power play goal of the season while receiving assists from Evan Bushy (Thief River Falls, Minn.) and the Lakers' leading scorer Jared Westcott (Imperial, Mo.) at the 15:05 mark. However, RIT was able to retake the lead just before the buzzer sounded for the intermission with a shorthanded goal from Tyler Mahan.

Early in the second period, Sasha Teleguine (North Attleborough, Mass.) received a pass from Carter Batchelder (Savage, Mich.) and took it the rest of the way to knot up the score at 2-2. However, RIT managed to break the deadlock with two more goals midway through the period, and despite Ethan Langenegger (Kamloops, B.C.) stopping every shot he faced in just over 26 minutes of relief duty, the Tigers would ultimately hold on for the 4-2 victory.

The Lakers will now turn their attention back to conference play after a two-week hiatus when they host the Northern Michigan Wildcats to resume the Cappo Cup Series with puck drop for game one scheduled for Friday, Jan. 12 at 7:07 p.m.
