PREVIEW: Laker Hockey Set to Face Bulldogs on Saturday

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program (8-9-1, 5-6-1 CCHA) is set to travel for a single game at Ferris State (5-10-1, 3-7-0 CCHA) for a single game on Saturday, Dec. 16 with puck drop scheduled for 5:07 p.m.

  • The Lakers lead the all time series between the two programs by a margin of 84-62-15.
  • LSSU came out on top in three of four contests between these two teams last season, including a weekend sweep in Big Rapids to end the regular season.
  • Ferris State has found success when they have been able to hang around with teams, despite their 5-10-1 record. When the Bulldogs have gotten the game to overtime, they are 4-1-1 with the lone loss at the hands of Minnesota State.
  • The Bulldogs currently sit eighth in the CCHA standings with eight league points, seven points behind the trio of LSSU, Northern Michigan, and Bowling Green who are all tied at 15.
  • Laker freshmen have been carrying the load offensively in recent weeks, scoring 12 of the Lakers' 17 goals over the past three series, highlighted by John Herrington (Hudson's Hope, B.C.) who was just named the CCHA Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
  • Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) and Jared Westcott (Imperial, Mo.) have reclaimed their league-lead in +/- rating going into the weekend with each at +9.
  • The Lakers' offense will be looking to find a way to get the puck past Bulldog goaltender Logan Stein who ranks second in the CCHA in both goals against average (2.42) and save percentage (9.26), but Stein will have his work cut out for him against an LSSU offense that ranks first in the league, scoring 3.33 goals per game.
