Laker Hockey Face Setback at St. Thomas

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program (6-7, 3-4 CCHA) fell to the St. Thomas Tommies (7-5-1, 5-2-0) by a final score of 4-2 on Friday.

The Tommies were able to take an early lead on the power play with a strike from Liam Malmquist, and Matthew Gleason extended the lead to 2-0 going into the first intermission.

At the 7:21 mark of the second period, John Herrington (Hudson's Hope, B.C.) was able to steal away a loose puck and cut the deficit in half with a shorthanded goal to swing back the momentum. However, St. Thomas was able to score two more goals before the end of the period to go up 4-1.

Carter Batchelder (Savage, Minn.) swung the momentum back in favor of LSSU at the 5:10 mark with a goal merely 20 minutes away from his hometown as Cam Kungle (Red Deer, Alb.) and Joshua Wildauer (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) picked up assists on the play. However, despite multiple quality chances, the Tommies were able to fend off the furious Laker attack for the remainder of the period.

The Lakers will be looking to split the series on Saturday, Nov. 25 with the first puck drop scheduled for 6:07 p.m. Central Standard Time.
