Laker Hockey Falls in Overtime Heartbreaker

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State hockey program (5-5-0, 2-2-0 CCHA) fell to the Northern Michigan Wildcats (2-6-1, 1-3-0 CCHA) in overtime by a final score of 4-3 on Saturday.

Jared Westcott (Imperial, Mo.) would once again open up the scoring for the Lakers, finding the back of the net at the 14:22 mark of the opening period to give his team a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The Wildcats would then come to life in the second period with goals from Kristof Papp and Connor Eddy pushing NMU ahead 2-1 going into the third.

Defenseman Grant Hindman (Oakland, Mich.) would then score the first goal of his career at the 2:01 mark of the third period with an assist from Harrison Roy (Lakeville, Mass.). However, the Wildcats answered with another goal from Papp less than 90 seconds later. Needing a goal late in the game to stay alive, the Lakers would pull Ethan Langenegger (Kamloops, B.C.) in favor of an extra attacker, and Westcott slotted home his second goal of the night to tie the national lead in goals with his ninth of the season and tied up the score at 3-3 with 12.5 seconds left in regulation. John Herrington (Hudson's Hope, B.C.) and Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C.) also picked up assists on the play.

However, Josh Zinger would break the hearts of Laker fans just over a minute into the overtime period, ending the game at 4-3.

The Lakers will be looking to bounce back on Friday, Nov. 17 when they host the Bowling Green Falcons in Taffy Abel Arena with the first puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
