Laker Hockey Welcomes Nate Schweitzer

Laker Hockey Welcomes Nate Schweitzer

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program welcomes Nate Schweitzer to the team after spending his first two seasons of college hockey at Colorado College.

Schweitzer, a native of Champlin, Minn., notched 32 points (6G, 26A) in his senior season of Minnesota high school hockey at Benilde-St. Margaret's. After graduation, he would then take his talents to Sioux Falls, S.D. where he would play one season with the United States Hockey League's (USHL) Stampede in 2020-21. During his single season with the organization, Schweitzer was able to record 23 points (8G, 15A) from the blue line, but rather than stay in juniors, college hockey came calling early.

Schweitzer began his NCAA career as a freshman at Colorado College during the 2021-22 season in which he appeared in 31 games, and he notched the first points of his career with a goal and an assist in an 8-1 victory over Air Force. Then, after a sophomore campaign that only saw him appear in 11 games, he decided it was time to make a change, eventually deciding to come to the Soo via the transfer portal.

Schweitzer and the Lakers are set to kick off the 2023-24 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Michigan State.
