Jacob Bengtsson and Louis Boudon Named to the All-CCHA Second Team

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Junior forward Louis Boudon and sophomore defenseman Jacob Bengtsson have been named to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's (CCHA) 2021-22 All-CCHA Second Team, as announced by conference officials on Tuesday, March 15.

Boudon recorded 27 points in 25 CCHA games played during his junior season, which included 10 goals and 17 assists. The Laker captain closed out the regular season tied for ninth in points in CCHA play, tied for seventh in goals in CCHA play, and tied for fifth in assists in CCHA play. Boudon, the team's top line center who plays in all situations for the Lakers, led the conference in shorthanded goals (3), was tied for the conference lead in both game winning goals (4) and hat tricks (1), and was tied for fourth in conference play in power play goals (3). Boudon led his teammates in goals, assists, and points in CCHA play this season. The Grenoble, France native posted points in 14 of the 25 CCHA games he competed in this year, which included nine multi-point efforts. Boudon ended the regular season ranking third in both faceoff wins (276) and total faceoffs taken (531). Boudon finished the season receiving conference honors on numerous occasions including CCHA Forward of the Month (October) and CCHA Forward of the Week three times (Oct. 25, Dec. 13 & Feb. 14). 

Bengtsson totaled 16 points in 25 CCHA games played as a sophomore, including three goals and 13 assists. The top pair defenseman, who played in all situations for the Lakers this year, was tied for third in points among defensemen in CCHA play. The sophomore defenseman's goal in the team's 3-1 win over St. Thomas on Oct. 15 stood as the game winner. Bengtsson recorded points in 11 of the 25 CCHA games he played in during the season and posted three multi-point games for the Lakers. The Stockholm, Sweden native ranked third among the Lakers in points in CCHA games this season and first among all Laker defenseman in points in conference play. Bengtsson finished the season receiving conference honors on numerous occasions including CCHA Defenseman of the Month (October) and CCHA Defenseman of the Week on Dec. 13. 

Boudon, who received 11 points, joins Bemidji State's Owen Sillinger (24 points), Michigan Tech's Trenton Bliss (10 points) and Northern Michigan's AJ Vanderbeck (10 points) as the four forwards on the All-CCHA Second Team. Bengtsson earned 11 points to join Michigan Tech's Colin Swoyer (14 points) as the two defensemen on the All-CCHA Second Team. Michigan Tech goaltender Blake Pietila rounds out the team after receiving eight points on the ballot.  

Voting for the 2021-22 All-CCHA Teams and CCHA Players/Coach of the Year awards were conducted by the eight head coaches at each CCHA member institution. Coaches voted for six forwards, four defenseman and two goaltenders, followed by three rookie forwards and two rookie defenseman, all in descending order, and one rookie goaltender. Lastly, the eight CCHA head coaches voted for one player or coach from each of the respective individual categories. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players or themselves.
