Jacob Bengtsson and Louis Boudon Nominated for 2022 Hobey Baker Award

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State junior forward Louis Boudon and sophomore defenseman Jacob Bengtsson have been nominated for the 2022 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, given annually to the top player in NCAA Division I hockey. 

Beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at noon ET through Sunday, March 6 at midnight ET, fan balloting for the 2022 Hobey Baker Award is open. This year's nominees include 77 skaters representing 42 NCAA Division I schools. College hockey fans can cast their vote in the tremendously popular fan-voting campaign by clicking here. Award criteria include candidates exhibiting the exceptional character traits of the award's namesake, Hobey Baker. A legendary American hero, Baker was a World War I fighter pilot and was known as America's greatest amateur athlete in his day, excelling at hockey and football at Princeton University. Award candidates must demonstrate strength of character both on and off the ice, contribute to the integrity of his team and display outstanding skills in all phases of the game. Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship.  

 Louis Boudon 

Junior forward, and team captain, Louis Boudon has been one of the top offensive players in the nation this season as the centerman leads the Lakers with 27 points (11G, 16A) in 24 games. This season, Boudon has posted points in 14 of the team's games and has recorded seven multi-point efforts this year. Through 24 games this season, Boudon has set new career-highs in goals (11), game winning goals (3), and shorthanded goals (2), and tied his previous season-high in power play goals (4) and points (27). As of Jan. 11, Boudon ranks tied for fifth among all NCAA skaters in points and has won the sixth-most faceoffs in NCAA hockey this season (265). Among CCHA skaters, Boudon ranks fifth in points, and is tied for fourth in both goals and assists. The Grenoble, France native is the only skater in the NCAA to record two or more hat tricks this season. Boudon has been recognized multiple times this season by the CCHA - twice as Forward of the Week and once as Forward of the Month. A leader for the Lakers on and off the ice, Boudon, a kinesiology major, has been recognized multiple times for his academic excellence. 

Jacob Bengtsson

Sophomore defenseman Jacob Bengtsson has placed himself among the top defensemen in NCAA hockey this season with 20 points (2G, 18A) through 24 games. Bengtsson ranks second on the Lakers in points and leads the team in assists. The sophomore ranks first among all CCHA defensemen in points and is tied for second among all CCHA skaters in assists this season. Among all NCAA defensemen, Bengtsson ranks second in assists and third in points this season. Having played in all 24 of the team's games this season, Bengtsson has set new career highs in assists and points, and tied his previous season high in goals. Both of Bengtsson's goals this season have come on the power play, and his goal in the team's 3-1 win over St. Thomas on Oct. 15 stood as the game winner. The Stockholm, Sweden native has recorded points in 12 of the team's games this season, with six multi-point efforts. Bengtsson has been recognized multiple times this season by the CCHA - once as Defenseman of the Month and once as Defenseman of the Week.

Phase two of fan balloting will come from the list of Top Ten Hobey Baker finalists beginning March 17 and closing March 27. The fans' vote accounts for a full one percent of the total ballot in each phase in selecting this year's award recipient.

The 2022 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced from a field of three Hobey Hat Trick finalists on Friday, April 8, 2022 during the NCAA Frozen Four Championship in Boston, MA. The award ceremony will be broadcast nationally on NHL Network and streamed live at hobeybaker.com.
