Ethan Langenegger and Josh Nixon Receive CCHA Player of the Week Honors

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.Ethan Langenegger and Josh Nixon have each received Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Player of the Week honors as announced by conference officials on Monday, Dec. 6. Langenegger has been named CCHA Goaltender of the Week and Nixon has been named CCHA Rookie of the Week. 

Goaltender of the Week: Ethan Langenegger

Lake Superior State sophomore goaltender Ethan Langenegger backstopped the Lakers to a CCHA road split against the Ferris State Bulldogs. In Friday's 3-0 win, Langenegger earned his second career shutout and his second shutout in the last three games as the goalie stopped all 35 shots he faced in the game. The Kamloops, B.C. native followed with a 26 save effort against the Bulldogs on Saturday night in a 3-1 loss. Langenegger closed out the weekend with 61 saves on 64 shots, totaling a .953 save percentage and a 1.59 goals against average in the series. Langenegger has earned consecutive CCHA Goaltender of the Week accolades as the sophomore netminder received the conference recognition last week after posting a 1-0 shutout victory over then No. 1-ranked Minnesota State. 

Rookie of the Week: Josh Nixon

Lake Superior State freshman Josh Nixon led the Lakers to a 3-0 win over the Ferris State Bulldogs on Friday night as the forward posted his first career multi-goal game. Nixon scored his first goal of the game in the second period with his first career power play goal to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead in the game. The goal, which stood as the eventual game winner, marked the first game winning goal in Nixon's collegiate career. Later in the game, the Mississauga, Ont. native sealed the Laker victory with an empty net goal to make it a 3-0 score. Nixon finished the weekend with two goals in the series while also recording nine shots on goal and +1 rating. Earlier this season, Nixon was named the CCHA Rookie of the Month for his play during the month of October. 

The Lakers will close out the first half of the season with a home CCHA series next weekend against the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday, Dec. 10 and Saturday, Dec. 11. The first game is set for a 7:07 p.m. start at the Taffy Abel Arena while the second game is scheduled for a 6:07 p.m. puck drop in Sault Ste. Marie. The game will be available to stream on FloHockey. Fans can tune in to listen to Bill Crawford and Matt Pocket on the radio call on 99.5 YES FM.
