Laker Hockey Falls in Saturday Night Road Game at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Lake Superior State hockey team lost a 6-2 game to the Bowling Green Falcons on Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Slater Family Ice Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio in the closing game of a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) weekend series. With the loss, the Lakers hold a 7-8-1 overall record and a 3-5-0 mark in conference play this season

Logan Jenuwine and Josh Nixon scored the Lakers goals in the game while goaltender Ethan Langenegger stopped 29 of the 34 shots he faced in the game.

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead at 1:05 of the first period when the home team capitalized on a turnover in the Laker end. Alex Barber collected the puck and sent a quick pass to Taylor Schneider, who got off a quick wrist shot to beat Langenegger for the game's first goal.

Lake Superior State evened the game at 2:57 of the first period when Dustin Manz scored his fourth goal of the season, setting a new season-high for the junior forward. Sophomore defenseman Jacob Bengtsson connected the puck to junior forward Logan Jenuwine, who carried the puck into the offensive zone. Jenuwine skated deep into the Falcons end with the puck before firing a sharp angle shot towards Bowling Green's goal. Manz was driving to the net on the play and perfectly redirected the puck by Falcons goalie Christian Stoever to even the game at one.

The Lakers grabbed the lead for the first time in the game at 5:50 of the first period when freshman forward Josh Nixon scored his second goal of the season to put the Lakers up 2-1 over the Falcons. Nixon, with the puck in the offensive zone, found Jenuwine open in the slot. Jenuwine made a beautiful play to get around the Falcon defender and dished a pass to Nixon, just outside Stoever's crease. The first-year forward found an opening between Stoever and the post to net the Lakers second goal of the game.

Before the end of the first period, the Falcons tied the game at two with a wraparound goal while skating four-on-four. Chrystopher Collin netted the goal at 15:07 of the period.

The Falcons scored a pair of goals in the second period to hold a 4-2 lead following forty minutes of play. Alex Barber broke the 2-2 tie at 3:09 of the period and a power play goal by Nathan Burke at 14:11 gave the Falcons the two goal lead.

At 11:05 of the third period, Ethan Scardina gave the Falcons a 5-2 lead.

With 4:54 left in the game, Bowling Green's Collin was assessed a five minute major penalty, giving the Lakers the extra man advantage for the remainder of regulation play. The Lakers pulled Langenegger for a two-skater edge but the Falcons would score an empty net goal with exactly three minutes left in the game to seal the 6-2 win.

The Lakers will return home next weekend for a pair of games against No. 3 Minnesota State at the Taffy Abel Arena. The CCHA series will open on Friday, Nov. 26 at 7:07 p.m. and conclude on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 6:07 p.m.
