Laker Hockey Drops First Game of a Weekend Series at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Lake Superior State hockey team fell to the Bowling Green Falcons by a final score of 5-1 on Friday, Nov. 19 at the Slater Family Ice Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio in the first game of a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) weekend series. With the loss, the Lakers record sits at 7-7-1 overall and 3-4-0 in CCHA competition.

Jacob Bengtsson scored the Lakers goal in the game while goaltender Ethan Langenegger stopped 31 of the 36 shots he faced in the game.

After nearly two periods of scoreless play between the two teams, the Falcons scored the opening goal of the game at 16:05 of the second period. Coale Norris scored the goal for Bowling Green after an extended shift in the offensive zone. Ben Wozney skated with the puck behind the Laker net and eventually circled past the goal line and sent a quick pass to Norris. Norris' quick wrister beat Langenegger for a 1-0 lead.

Before the end of the second period, the Falcons doubled their lead as Anton Malmstrom scored his first goal of the season to make it a 2-0 game. Norris and Ethan Scardina notched the assists on the game's second goal, which came while the two teams were playing four-on-four, at 18:59 of the period.

Bengtsson scored the Lakers first goal at 3:59 of the period when he scored a five-on-three goal to make it a 2-1 game. The Lakers power play unit was able to get set up in the offensive zone as Harrison Roy and Brandon Puricelli eventually traded passes from the faceoff circle and the point. Puricelli found Bengtsson open at the blue line and set up the defenseman to take the shot that made its way through traffic to beat Bowling Green goaltender Zack Rose.

Norris scored his second goal of the game shortly after Bengtsson's goal as the team's were skating four-on-four. The Falcons forward collected a stretch pass and skated in alone on Langenegger on a breakaway. After Langenegger stopped the original shot, Norris capitalized on his own rebound to give Bowling Green a 3-1 lead at the 5:28 mark of the third period.

The Falcons added two more goals in the third period, with Nathan Burke and Ethan Scardina scoring at 10:16 and 10:58, respectively.

The Lakers and Falcons will close out the weekend CCHA series tomorrow night at 7:07 p.m. at the Slater Family Ice Arena.
