Laker Hockey's Seven-Game Unbeaten Streak Comes to a Close with a 2-0 Loss to No. 18 Michigan Tech

HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Lake Superior State hockey team's seven game unbeaten streak came to a close with a 2-0 loss to the Nov. 18 Michigan Tech Huskies on Saturday, Nov. 6 at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena in Houghton, Mich. in the second game of a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) series. With the loss, the Lakers record sits at 7-4-1 this season and 3-1-0 in CCHA play.

After the first twenty minutes of play, the Lakers trailed the Huskies by two goals. The Huskies scored the game's opening goal at 5:32 of the first period when Trenton Bliss scored a power play goal. The eventual game winning goal came just after Laker junior forward Louis Boudon was stopped on a breakaway on one end of the ice by Huskies netminder Blake Pietila. Bliss' goal was assisted by Arvid Caderoth and Grant Docter.

Later in the period, the Lakers were called for a too many men minor to give the Huskies their second power play opportunity of the game. Similar to the first goal, the scoring play came directly after a great Laker chance. The Lakers penalty killers combined for a three-on-one odd man rush but could not beat Pietila to tie the game. Michigan Tech regained possession and followed with the team's second power play goal of the game to take a 2-0 lead at 15;31. Colin Swoyer tallied the goal with Alec Broetzman and Caderoth earning the assists.

The final forty minutes of play between the two Upper Peninsula teams remained scoreless as the game ended in a final score of 2-0 in favor of the home team.

Eisele finished the game with 29 saves while Pietila stopped all 20 shots from the Lakers.

The Lakers will return home to the Taffy Abel Arena next weekend for a pair of CCHA games against the Bemidji State Beavers. The series will open on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7:07 p.m. and wrap up on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 6:07 p.m. The game will be available to stream on FloHockey. Fans can tune in to listen to Bill Crawford and Matt Pocket on the radio call on 99.5 YES FM.
