Three Lakers Receive CCHA Player of the Month Honors

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Louis Boudon, Jacob Bengtsson, and Josh Nixon have each received Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Player of the Month honors as announced by conference officials on Wednesday, Nov. 3 for their play during the month of October. Boudon has been named CCHA Forward of the Month, Bengtsson has been named CCHA Defenseman of the Month, and Nixon has been named CCHA Rookie of the Month. 

Forward of the Month: Louis Boudon

Lake Superior State junior forward Louis Boudon led the CCHA in points during the month of October with 16 points (6G, 10A) in 10 games played. In addition to leading the CCHA in points, Boudon also leads the CCHA in assists (10), and is tied for first in the conference in both goals (6) and power play goals (3). Among all NCAA skaters, Boudon is tied for first in assists and is tied for second in points. Boudon recorded points in eight of the team's 10 games which included four multi-point efforts. The Grenoble, France native set a single-game career-high in points in the Lakers 7-4 win over Union on Oct. 22 with four assists and posted his first career hat trick in the team's most recent game, a 7-1 win over St. Lawrence on Oct. 30. During the month of October, Boudon posted a career-best six-game point streak, where he posted 12 points (3G, 9A). Boudon was named the CCHA Forward of the Week on Oct. 25.

Defenseman of the Month: Jacob Bengtsson

Lake Superior State sophomore defenseman Jacob Bengtsson led the CCHA in points among defensemen during the month of October with 10 points (1G, 9A) in 10 games played. Bengtsson ranks second among all NCAA defenders in points and leads all NCAA defensemen in assists through the first month of the season. The defenseman ranks fifth among all CCHA skaters in points this season and is tied for second in assists among all conference players. The Stockholm, Sweden native has posted points in five of Lake Superior's games this season with four being multi-point efforts. Bengtsson registered a career-best three assists in the team's 7-4 win over Union College on Oct. 22. Through 10 games into his sophomore season, Bengtsson has set new season highs in points and assists. Bengtsson scored the game winning goal in the Lakers 3-1 win over St. Thomas on Oct. 15.

Rookie of the Month: Josh Nixon

Lake Superior State rookie forward Josh Nixon led the CCHA in points among first year players during the month of October with eight points (1G, 7A) in 10 games played. Nixon is tied for seventh in scoring in the CCHA and tied for third in assists with seven. The first year forward for the Lakers has appeared in all 10 games this season and recorded a career-best four points (1G, 3A) in the team's 5-2 win over Union College on Oct. 23. The Mississauga, Ont. native strung together a three-game point streak from Oct. 16-23, totaling one goal and five assists in that span. This season, the Lakers hold a 4-1-0 record when Nixon registers a point.

The Lakers will travel for the first time in nearly a month as the team is set to take on Michigan Tech in a road series in Houghton, Mich. The two-game CCHA series will open on Friday, Nov. 5 at 7:07 p.m. and conclude on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 6:07 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
