Miura Joins Japan at IIHF Men's World Championship

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Lake Superior State hockey student-athlete Yuki Miura has joined the Japan national ice hockey team at the 2019 IIHF Men's World Championship in Tallinn, Estonia. Japan is in Division I, Group B with Poland, Estonia, Ukraine, Romania and Netherlands. Group B begins play on April 28. 

Miura, a sophomore from Tokyo who is majoring in Kinesiology, scored two goals in 23 games played for Lake Superior State (23-13-2, 16-10-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) in 2018-19. He scored his first collegiate goal in the Lakers' 5-2 win over Bemidji State on Jan. 25 at Taffy Abel Arena. He then scored in the Lakers' 5-2 home win over Ferris State on March 1.

Miura also played for Japan at the 2018 IIHF Men's World Championships — tallying four assists and a +4 rating in five games.

This season, the Lakers won their most games in a season since 1995-96, recorded their longest winning streak since 1996-97 (seven games), swept Ferris State in a road series for the first time since 1993-94, swept Michigan Tech in a series for the first time since 1983-84, won 16 WCHA Player of Week and six WCHA Player of the Month awards, had four All-WCHA Team selections, 14 WCHA All-Academic Team honorees, five WCHA Scholar-Athletes, a Hockey Humanitarian Award nominee, two Hobey Baker Award nominees, claimed the first Great Lakes Invitational Championship in program history and captured their first-ever WCHA Playoffs series win.
