Lakers Fall to Bowling Green, 5-2, in Series Finale

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. – The Lake Superior State hockey team suffered a, 5-2, loss to Bowling Green State Saturday completing a Western Collegiate Hockey Association weekend matchup.

With the loss the, The Lakers slide to 2-7-3 overall with a 1-3-2 mark in the WCHA. The Falcons move to 5-3-3, 4-1-3.

After playing the Falcons to a,2-2, tie in Friday's opener, The Lakers found themselves in a hole early on as BGSU's Stephen Baylis found the back of the net just 3:48 into the contest.

Lake State leveled the score, 1-1, when junior forward Diego Cuglietta scored unassisted at the 18:28 mark in the first for his third goal of the season.

Bowling Green reclaimed the lead in the second when Mitch McLain scored a short-handed. Bayless added to the lead, 3-2, at the end of the second period.

The Falcons continued to build their lead with a goal by Cameron Wright two minutes into the third. The Lakers showed signs of life when Gage Torrel scored his first goal of the season on an assist by Cuglietta to cut the lead to, 4-2, before McLain scored and empty-netter to ice the win.

LSSU was outshot by BGSU for the second-straight night, 35-31, and went 0-for-6 on power play opportunities. Lake State held a, 43-31, advantage in faceoffs.

Freshman Mareks Mitens got the start in the net and allowed four goals on 30 shots faced in the loss. Mitens moves to 1-5-1 on the season.

The Lakers will continue conference play next weekend as they remain on the road for a weekend series with Alabama Huntsville Nov.17-18

The Lakers return home, Saturday Nov.25, at 5 p.m. for the first-annual "Thanksgiving Family Feast" promotion as they take on the USA Hockey 18 & Under National Team in an exhibition.
