Laker Golf Competes at Panther Invitational

AUGUSTA, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's and women's golf teams competed at the 2023 Panther Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.

 

Men

Freshman Yongbo Guan (Qingdao, China) led the way for the Lakers with a two-day total of 151 (71/80) after using three birdies to stay on par after the opening round that had him sitting in a tie for second overall after the first day of competition. Charley Stephen (Oshawa, Ont.) placed second among his teammates after finishing 13 strokes over par (79/76) to improve by ten spots on the individual leaderboard. Jackson Theiler (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Charles Johnson (Green Bay, Wis.), and Collin Pajot (Brighton, Mich.) rounded out the lineup for the Lakers with respective scores of 164, 167, and 171.

Women

True freshman Kiera Cotter (Etobicoke, Ont.) had the top score among her teammates after improving 16 spots on the individual leaderboard on the second day of competition, finishing with a two-day total of 158 (83/75) to place 18th overall. Jesse Hellebuyck (Almont, Mich.) utilized a consistent showing over two days to finish with a two-day total of 169 (84/85), ranking second among the Lakers. Meanwhile,  Marie Mathieu (Marshall, Mich.), Natalie Kellogg (Montague, Mich.), Mackenzie Davidson (Rockford, Mich.) all finished the second day of competition tied at 184 strokes to round out the lineup.

The Lakers will now turn their attention to the 2024 spring season.
