Laker Golf Competes at Flyer Intercollegiate

LEMONT. Ill. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's and women's golf teams competed at the 2023 Flyer Intercollegiate, hosted by Lewis University, at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.

 

Men

True freshman Yongbo Guan (Qingdao, China) had the top mark among his teammates with a two-day total of 153 (81/27), and he was able to improve 22 spots on the individual leaderboard after shooting even on par on the second day of competition, placing in a tie for 32nd overall. Charley Stephen (Oshawa, Ont.) was not far behind with a two-round total of 155 strokes (78/77) while notching six birdies. Charles Johnson (Green Bay, Wis.) and Jackson Theiler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) ranked third and fourth among their teammates with respective totals of 163 (81/82) and 166 (86/60). Collin Pajot (Brighton, Mich.) rounded out the lineup for LSSU with a two-round total of 178 (95/83).

 

Women

Marie Mathieu (Marshall, Mich.) led the Lakers after using a pair of birdies for a two-round total of 167 (82/85). True freshman Kiera Cotter (Etobicoke, Ont.) would then improve four spots on the individual leaderboard in the second round on her way to a two-day total of 172 (86/86). Jesse Hellebuyck (Almont, Mich.) and Mackenzie Davidson (Rockford, Mich.) would each finish the second round with a combined total of 184 with Hellebuyck improving by ten shots in the second round. Natalie Kellogg (Montague, Mich.) would then round out the lineup for the Lakers with a two-day score of 208 swings. 

The Lakers will now turn their attention to the Lawrence Tech Blue Devil Classic starting on Monday, Oct. 9.
