Laker Golf Programs Prepare for the Start of the 2022-23 Season

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State University men's and women's golf programs are set to open the 2022-23 season with the men's team traveling to Allendale, Mich. for the Grand Valley State University Invite on Sept. 4-5 and the women's team participating in the Lawrence Tech Classic on Sept. 19-20 in Gaylord, Mich.

On the men's side, the experience of seniors Callum McKay (Calgary, Alb.) and Collin Pajot (Brighton, Mich.) should provide guidance and leadership for the young core of golfers, and sophomore Marko Banic (Calgary, Alb.) will look to take the next step in his development after leading the Lakers at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships in April to close out the previous season. Four new faces have also joined the program for the upcoming season.

"I am really looking forward to the upcoming fall season as we added three new freshmen and one transfer to fill the team with even more depth for the men," said Head Coach Tony Crisp.

After the GVSU Invite, the men will compete in the LTU Classic two weeks later. They will then prepare for a busy October slate with the Tiffin University Invite, the Motor City Invite, and the Davenport Panther Invite to round out the fall schedule.

On the women's side, three experienced returners in Julia Vess (New Hudson, Mich.), Marie Mathieu (Marshall, Mich.), and Jesse Hellebuyck (Almont, Mich.), as well as a pair of new freshmen will look to immediately contribute to the improvement of the program.

"With the two international freshmen that we have added to the three returnees on the women's team, I am hoping to greatly improve our competitiveness for this fall and beyond," said Crisp.

After the LTU Classic, the women's team will travel downstate for the Bulldog Fall Invitational hosted by Ferris State on Saturday, Sept. 24 and the women's GVSU Invite beginning the following day. They will then turn their attention to the Lewis University Invite on Oct. 3-4 before rounding out the fall schedule at the Davenport Panther Invite on Oct. 15-16.
