Lakers finish 14th at GLIAC Men's Golf Championships

NASHPORT, Ohio - Lake Superior State men's golf was unable to build upon a solid second round combined score of 303 on Saturday (April 16) and finished Sunday's (April 17) third round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships with a combined 318 to finish 14th overall.

LSSU golfer Gavin MacIver was tied for seventh individually after the second round, but dropped back to a tie with teammate Joe Ericson with a 10-over-par 82 on Sunday. Ericson rebounded with a par on Saturday and shot a 77 (+5) on Sunday. Ericson finished tied for third individually with 10 birdies for the tournament. MacIver finished with eight birdies through three rounds to tie for 10th overall and was +5 on Par 4's to tie for sixth individually.

Sophomore Jason Kerr finished with the squad's top three-day total after a 76 (+4) on Sunday that put him at +14 (80-74-76--230) for the tournament, good enough to tie for 24th individually. Kerr's +2 combined score on Par 3's was good enough to tie for 12th overall.

Sophomore Sam Eberts shot an 83 to improve by two strokes on Sunday after consecutive rounds of 85 on Friday and Saturday and finished 70th overall. Eberts was followed up by junior Matt Meharg with a 72nd place finish after posting a tournament total of 84-85-91--260.

Tiffin University claimed a one-stroke victory over Grand Valley State to claim the team championship with a 298-299-295--892 (+28). Malone's Jake Troyer earned medalist honors after defeating GVSU's Alex Scott in a one-hole sudden death playoff.
