Laker Men's Basketball Close Out Regular Season With 76-68 Win

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's basketball team (21-7, 13-5 GLIAC) closed out the regular season with a 76-68 victory over the Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside (13-15, 8-10 GLIAC) on Saturday.

Tyson Edmondson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) opened up the game with a three after taking a nice pass from Devin Womack (Ypsilanti, Mich.), and Womack would then find Edmondson for another three to put the Lakers up 10-5. The Rangers were able to cut the lead down to one, but the Lakers managed to hold them off with free throws and a three from Adam Harakow (Edmonton, Alta.). Both teams continued to battle throughout the opening half, but Wisconsin-Parkside was able to crawl their way back to take a one–point lead going into the halftime break.

Both teams went back and forth to open the second half with Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) earning multiple trips to the free throw line, and a Womack and-one gave his team the lead. Xander Okerlund (Empire, Mich.) would then catch fire with a pair of threes as the Lakers pushed ahead to a 58-50 advantage. Okerlund went on to hit another three to hold off the Rangers, and the Lakers closed out the win from the charity stripe.

Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.) led all players with 19 points while also grabbing a team-high 8 rebounds. Meanwhile, Edmondson and Okerlund each finished with 13 points, and both Perkins and Womack ended the night with 11 as all five LSSU starters finished with double-figures.

The Lakers will now turn their attention to the GLIAC Tournament where they will host the No. 7 seeded Wayne State Warriors on Wednesday, March 6 with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
