Laker Men's Basketball Stun GVSU 91-55

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's basketball program (11-5,  3-3 GLIAC) picked up a dominant victory over the visiting Grand Valley State (GVSU) Lakers (7-9, 4-2 GLIAC), leading wire-to-wire on their way to a final score of 91-55 on Thursday.

LSSU got off to a quick start with Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) opening up the scoring on the block as his team jumped out to an early 9-2 lead. GVSU was able to cut the lead down to one, but threes from Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.) and Adam Harakow (Edmonton, Alta.) helped LSSU pull ahead. Five points from Tyson Edmondson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) would then kickstart a 10-0 Lake Superior State run as they took a 45-27 lead into the halftime break.

LSSU opened up the second half strong with a 13-2 run that featured threes from Soper and Devin Womack (Ypsilanti, Mich.). Blake Cassidy (Pellston, Mich.) and Andy Soma (Traverse City, Mich.) would then continue to let it fly for an 11-0 run to extend the gap to 41. Grand Valley fought back with a 9-0 run, but a pair of layups from Nino Carter-Smith (Warren, Mich.) and Drew Hess (Oscoda, Mich.) closed out a dominant win in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Four different Lakers finished the night in double-figures, led by Edmondson with 16 with Soper not far behind with 15 while being one rebound shy of a double-double. Meanwhile, Perkins and Soma each posted 12 points on the night.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20 when they host the Davenport Panthers with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
