KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men's basketball team (4-0) continued their hot start to the season with a 75-62 victory over the Quincy Hawks (2-3) on Monday.
Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) opened up the scoring for the Lakers, but Quincy was able to jump out to an 11-4 lead. LSSU would then battle back as back-to-back threes from Tyson Edmondson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) tied up the score and helped jumpstart a 16-2 Laker run to go up by eight. The Hawks were able to respond and get back to within one, but Edmondson continued to let it fly from beyond the arc to keep his team in front as LSSU took a 39-34 lead into the break.
The Lakers continued to press the attack early in the second half with a 6-0 run. LSSU continued to keep firing on all cylinders, and with six minutes remaining, Devin Womack (Ypsilanti, Mich.) drove in for a layup to put his team up by 20 points. Quincy would keep fighting, but it would ultimately not be enough as the Lakers cruised to the 75-62 win, moving to 4-0 on the season.
Edmondson led all players in scoring with 20 points after hitting on six of his three-point attempts, and Perkins proved to be a force offensively, hitting on eight of his nine attempts on his way to 17 points on the night. Womack and Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.) would also finish in double-digit scoring with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Lakers return to action on Friday, Dec. 1 when they travel to take on NCAA DI Eastern Michigan with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
