Preview: Laker Men's Basketball Set to Face GVSU and Davenport With Home Court on the Line

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's basketball program (11-13, 10-6 GLIAC) is set to travel to face the Grand Valley State Lakers and the Davenport Panthers on Thursday, Feb. 23, and Saturday, Feb. 25, with home court in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament on the line.

Grand Valley (16-10, 10-6 GLIAC) is led offensively by Marius Grazulis scoring an average of 12.5 points per game to pace a balanced offense while also leading his team in rebounding with 6.6 per contest. LSSU came out on top with a 79-75 victory in overtime the last time the two programs faced off in the Soo, but this time, they will have to face them in Allendale, Mich. where Grand Valley has won eight of eleven games so far this season. Lake Superior State has already clinched a berth in the GLIAC postseason tournament, but they can secure home court advantage with a victory over Grand Valley. It is still possible to receive home court with a loss to the rival Lakers, but that would require help in the form of a victory from the Ferris State Bulldogs on Saturday combined with an LSSU win over Davenport and the Bulldogs finishing higher than Northern Michigan in the final GLIAC standings.

The Panthers (7-19, 3-13 GLIAC) are currently on a losing streak of two games, and they are on the verge of being eliminated from postseason contention with a victory from any two of Wayne State, Michigan Tech, and Purdue Northwest. However, they still may have the opportunity to play spoiler, and they have proven that they are capable of upsetting anyone in the conference with a 72-58 victory at Wisconsin-Parkside earlier this season. Offensively, Marcedus Leech Jr. leads the Panthers in scoring with an average of 20 points per game, the second-highest mark in the GLIAC.
