Preview: Laker Men's Basketball Return Home to Face SVSU and Wayne State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's (9-12, 8-5 GLIAC) basketball program is set to host the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals and the Wayne State Warriors for a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) games in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium on Thursday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 11, respectively.

The Cardinals currently hold a record of 11-11 (6-6 GLIAC), but they are riding a two-game losing streak with losses to Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech with the Lakers looking to hand Saginaw Valley their third-consecutive loss in the Upper Peninsula. The Lakers fell to the Cardinals in their previous matchup in January by a final score of 79-73, so they will also be seeking a split of the season series in order to hold pace in a tightly contested battle for home court advantage in March.

The Warriors enter the weekend with an overall record of 7-12 (4-8 GLIAC), and they will travel to face the Ferris State Bulldogs before their matchup against LSSU in the Soo on Saturday. The Lakers handled the Warriors in their previous matchup in Detroit by a final score of 69-60, led by a career-high 27-point performance from Kemon Bassett (Detroit, Mich.) in his hometown. Xander Okerlund (Empire, Mich.) also recorded a career-high of 14 rebounds in the contest.
