Kemon Bassett Named to the All-GLIAC North Preseason Team

SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State men's basketball student-athlete Kemon Bassett has been named to the 2021-22 All-GLIAC North Preseason Team, as announced by conference officials on Wednesday, Nov. 17. Bassett, a senior forward, received First Team All-GLIAC honors for his play during the 2020-21 season. 

Bassett joined the Lakers at the start of the 2020-21 season after playing two seasons at Schoolcraft Community College in Livonia, Mich. In his first season with the Lakers, Bassett led the team with 15.2 points per game and ranked tenth in the category among all GLIAC players at the close of the regular season. The forward started 18 of the team's 19 games last season and averaged 23.8 minutes on the floor for LSSU. Bassett's 52.8 field goal percentage last season ranked second on the team and he finished the regular season ranked fourth among all conference players in shooting percentage. The Detroit, Mich. native ranked second on the Lakers in rebounds with 7.4 per game and ended the regular season ranking in the top ten of the category in the GLIAC. 

Additionally, Bassett posted double-figures in points in 15 of the team's 19 games in his first season as a Laker while also totaling five double-doubles during the 2021 season. The forward was named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week on two different occasions (Jan. 13 and Feb. 1). 

The Lakers will host Westminster College this weekend for a pair of nonconference games at the Ronald "Bud" Cooper Gymnasium in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. The first game will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19 while the two teams will tipoff at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20.
