Three Lakers Receive All-GLIAC Honors

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Three student-athletes on the Lake Superior State men's basketball team have received all conference honors for their play during the 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) season. Junior forward Kemon Bassett was named First Team All-GLIAC, redshirt senior guard Malek Adams was named Second Team All-GLIAC and junior guard C.J. Robinson was named to the All-GLIAC Defensive Team, as announced by conference officials on Saturday, March 7. 

Kemon Bassett, First Team All-GLIAC

Bassett, a junior transfer from Schoolcraft Community College, led the Lakers in his first season with the team with 15.2 points per game. At the close of the GLIAC regular season, Bassett ranked tenth in points per game among his conference peers. Bassett started 18 of the team's 19 games and averaged 28.3 minutes on the floor for LSSU. Bassett's 52.8 field goal percentage ranked second on the team and finished the regular season ranked fourth among all GLIAC players in shooting percentage. The Detroit, Mich. native ranked second on the Lakers in rebounds with 7.4 per game and finished the regular season in the top ten of the category in the GLIAC. 

Bassett posted double-figures in points in 15 of the team's 19 games this season and recorded five double-doubles during the 2021 season. The forward was named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week twice this season (Jan. 13 and Feb. 1). 

Malek Adams, Second Team All-GLIAC

Adams, a redshirt-senior guard, ranked second on the Lakers this season with 13.9 points per game to rank second on the team and 13th in the GLIAC during the regular season. After missing the entire 2019-20 season due to an injury, Adams had an especially strong second half of the season for the Lakers. The guard scored double-figure point totals in the team's last nine games of the season, and eight of the nine were 14 or more points. In the team's game on Feb. 13 against Northwood, Adams posted a season-best 28-point effort for the Lakers. 

The Grand Ledge, Mich. native finished the season with a 43.3 field goal percentage and a 39.2 mark from three. Adams finished the season recording two or more three pointers in seven consecutive contests. In the Lakers Feb. 16 game against Ferris State, Adams became the 43rd Laker all-time to record 1,000 career points and the first to reach the milestone since the 2017-18 season. The guard was named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week once this season (Feb. 15) and was a preseason All-GLIAC selection. 

C.J. Robinson, All-GLIAC Defensive Team

C.J. Robinson, a junior guard, started all 19 games for the Lakers this season and led the team in minutes per game with 32.5 this season. Robinson averaged 6.4 points per game this season and led the Lakers in assists per game (2.9). The junior guard was heavily relied on by Coach Hettinga and ranked first among his teammates in steals per game (1.4). 

Robinson's best game of the season came on Feb. 6 against Davenport as he recorded 14 points in the Lakers win while also adding four steals, three rebounds, and eight assists.
