Laker Men Set for GLIAC Final Four Weekend

BIG RAPIDS, Mich.—The Lake Superior State men's basketball team will continue postseason competition tomorrow evening as they square off with Michigan Tech in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Semifinals at 5 p.m. inside Ferris States' Wink Arena.

Setting the Stage:
On Wednesday, No.2-seeded LSSU took care of No.7 Grand Valley, 73-65, to advance to the final four. No.6 MTU knocked off No.3 Wayne State, 88-74, in their quarterfinal matchup.

The Lakers enter Saturday's matchup with a 2-0 mark in regular season meetings with the Huskies winning 84-73 at home (Jan.13) and 80-76 in overtime (Feb.17) in Houghton, Mich.

Lake Superior enters play on a six-game win streak and have won 9-of-10 dating back to the regular season. Tech is 6-4 in their last 10

By the Numbers:
LSSU comes in averaging 80.8 points per game, which ranks No.2 in the league and are No.3 defensively 69.2. MTU is averaging 75.9 points per contest while allowing 75.7

LSSU LEADERS:
Senior guard Akaemji Williams paces the team in scoring and ranks No.3 in the conference averaging 19.4 points per game. Williams leads the league and ranks No.7 nationally in ball handling with 7.0 assists per contest.



Michael Nicholson, a senior forward, leads the GLIAC and ranks No.11 nationally in offensive efficiency with a 64.0 field goal percentage on the year. Nicholson is averaging 11.2 points per game and leads the team on the glass with 7.7 boards per game.

Blake Marquardt has been the team's best sharpshooter this season with a 51.3 percent clip from behind the arc which ranks No.2 in the nation.

MTU LEADERS:
Junior forward Kyle Monroe is the offensive catalyst for the Huskies leading the conference and ranking No.2 national with a 28.1 points per game average. Bryan Heath is averaging 13.3.

Tournament Outlook:
No.1-seed Ferris State will take on the No.4 Ashland in the first semifinal game at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday's GLIAC Title Game is slated for 3 p.m.

GLIAC Awards:
The annual GLIAC awards banquet was held Friday evening at Ferris State's University Center.

Akaemji Williams earned All-GLIAC First-team honors and All-Defensive Team honors. Michael Nicholson earned a spot on the Second-Team and Josh Goldschmidt was also awarded All-Defensive Team.
