Lake State Men Hold Off Purdue Northwest, Finish Regular Season Undefeated at Home

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — The Laker Superior State men's basketball team captured a hard-fought, 92-84, victory over Purdue Northwest Saturday afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup inside the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

With the win, the LSSU caps of the 2017-18 regular season 22-6 overall, 16-4 in league action and a perfect 11-0 on their home floor. PNW ends their season 2-25, 2-17.

Lake State seniors Akaemji Williams, Michael Nicholson, Josh Goldschmidt and Lance Monroe were honored pregame for their accomplishments, both on and off the court.

Williams led the way for the Lakers once again with a team-high 26 points and 11 assists posting his seventh double-double of the year. Nicholson finished with 12 points and led the team on the glass with seven boards.

Carson Manger finished with a season-high 15 points off the bench. Blake Marquardt tallied nine points on a 3-of-5 performance from behind the arc.

Lake State finished the game shooting 56.1 (32-of-57) percent from the field and 33.3 (8-of-24) percent from behind the arc. Purdue Northwest finished at 55.8 and 40.9 percent.

LSSU held the slight advantaged in the rebounding column, 29-28, and forced 12 PNW turnovers while committing 11.

Tyree Coe led the Pride offensively with 23 points. Richard Robertson finished with 11.

With the GLIAC regular season in the books, the Lakers will enter the conference tournament as the No.2 seed and will host turn their attention to No.7 Grand Valley as they welcome in the Lakers for a quarterfinal matchup next Wednesday (Feb.28) at 7 p.m.
