Laker Men Bounce Back, Down Purdue Northwest 85-61

HAMMOND, Ind.— Two days after a 66-62 upset loss at Grand Valley, the Lake Superior State men's basketball team bounced back with a decisive, 85-61, win at Purdue Northwest in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference clash. 

The Lakers run their record to 15-4 overall and 9-2 in the conference with the win. The Pride slip to 1-18, 1-10.

LSSU finished the game shooting 51.5 (34-of-66) percent from the field and 38.7 (12-of-13) percent from behind the arc. PNW shot 41.8 and 27.3 percent. Lake Superior was out rebounded, 36-32.

Senior guard Akaemji Williams took charge of the Lake State offense with a team-high 18 points on an 8-of-15 shooting performance while dishing out five assists to lead the team.

Michael Nicholson notched his fourth double-double of the season with 17 points 8-of-9 shooting and 13 boards.

The Laker bench outscored the Pride, 41-17, on the afternoon. Malek Adams posted a season-high 15 points and Tim Cairnduff matched a season-high with 12.

Chris Nunn led PNW offensively with 14 points. Tyree Coe finished with 13.

Lake Superior returns to action next Saturday (Jan.27) as the continue GLIAC action at No.5 Ferris State.
