Williams Takes Home GLIAC North Player of the Week Honors

BAY CITY, Mich.-- Lake Superior State's senior guard Akaemji Williams has been awarded Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week honors for the third time this season after leading the Lakers to a pair of wins over rivals Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech.

On Thursday's 78-60 victory over the Wildcats, Williams posted a team high 18 points and nine assists. Williams shot 56.3 (9-of-16) from the field in the win.

On Saturday, the Pontiac, Mich., native erupted for a season-high 33 points and a 75 (15-20) percent mark from the field. Williams also came away with an LSSU single-game record nine steals on the afternoon, seven of which came in the first half of play.

For the season, Williams ranks third in the GLIAC in scoring (19.6) and leads the league in assists (7.1).

The Lakers continue conference play on the road this week as they take on Grand Valley on Thursday (Jan.18) at 8 p.m. and Purdue Northwest on Saturday (Jan.20) at 3 p.m.

Lake State returns to Bud Cooper Gymnasium Feb.1 as they play host to Saginaw Valley at 7:30 p.m.
