BAY CITY, Mich.—Lake Superior State's Akaemji Williams has been tabbed the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Williams, a senior, posted a double-double with 26 points and 10 assists Saturday as the No.18 Lakers upset No.5-ranked and undefeated Ferris State, 79-74, inside Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
The Pontiac, Mich., native is now averaging a team-leading 18.8 points per contest which ranks third in the GLIAC and is also averaging a league-best 6.5 assists per game.
Now with 1,645 career points, Williams surpassed Ron Sober (1604 for the No.8 spot in Laker history. His 576 assists No.3 all-time behind Brandon Woodworth (580) and Don Carlson (590).
The Lakers returns to action on Dec. 30 as the take on non-conference Southern Indiana in the Bill Joergens Memorial Classic.
Lake State returns home for the new year as they play host to Davenport (Jan.4) at 7 p.m. inside the Bud Cooper.
