Williams tabbed GLIAC North Division Player of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. - In leading Lake Superior State to three victories over Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals last week, Akaemji Williams has been named the GLIAC North Division Player of the week for the third time this season.

The Pontiac, Mich., native averaged 25.0 points, 7.3 assists 4.0 steals and 2.0 rebounds per game last week while leading the Lakers (13-7, 10-6 GLIAC) to a perfect 3-0 record against North Division rivals Northwood, Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech.

Williams opened the week with a double-double in a 113-79 victory over the Timberwolves, pouring in 26 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field (64.3 percent) and going four-of-five from behind the arc, while also adding 11 assists.

Following a 21-point performance in a 69-67 win over the Wildcats on Thursday, Williams capped his stellar week with 28 points, seven assists and four steals in Saturday's 98-84 overtime victory over the Huskies. Williams led the Lakers with 10 points during the overtime period as the Lakers outscored MTU 20-6 during the extra five minutes.

So far this season, Williams ranks second among GLIAC players with a 22.0 points per game average and leads the conference in both assists per game (8.1) and steals per game (3.0).

The Lakers travel to face North Division front-runners Ferris State at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and face Grand Valley State at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
