HOUGHTON, Mich. - Lake Superior State suffered their worst shooting output of the season on Saturday during an 86-57 loss at Michigan Tech to close the weekend Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road trip.

The Lakers (10-5, 7-4 GLIAC) made a season-low 16 field goals on 56 attempts (28.6 percent) and went 7-for-29 from three-point range. The Huskies (10-8, 8-3 GLIAC) shot a blistering 51.7 percent from the field and hit 18-of-36 shots from behind the arc.

Freshman Ke'Montrece Collins put the Lakers ahead 9-6 with 13:42 remaining in the first half, their largest lead of the game, but MTU guard Bryan Heath answered with a three-pointer 17 seconds later to tie the game at 9-9.  On the ensuing Laker possession, Collins hit a three to again put the Lakers ahead by three points but this time the Huskies answered with a 15-3 run to capture a nine-point lead with 7:59 remaining in the first half.

The hot shooting Huskies captured a 42-29 lead at the half while holding the Lakers to 25.8 percent shooting from the field and 18.8 percent from behind the arc during the opening 20 minutes.

Shooting troubles continued to plague the Lakers in the second half while the Huskies continued to light up the scoreboard from deep, going 6-for-8 behind the arc to open the second half and build a 26-point lead with 14:18 remaining.

Kyle Monroe and Jordan Chartier led the way for MTU, with each scoring 21 points and adding four assists. Monroe also logged a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.

Senior center Michael Smutny led the Lakers with 14 points, followed by Collins with 12 points. Collins also tied Carson Manger for a team-high five rebounds.

The Lakers continue the two-week stretch of road games with Thursday's GLIAC North Division game at Saginaw Valley State, followed by Saturday's game at Wayne State. LSSU returns home Jan. 30 for a Monday evening meeting with GLIAC travel partners Northwood.
